Poncho Espino is a lifelong, born-and-raised resident of Elyria-Swansea in District 9 and long-time member of the Party for Socialism and Liberation. Born to immigrant parents from the state of Durango, Mexico, Poncho has witnessed first-hand the decimation of the historic immigrant and minority communities that reside in D9. He signed on to the "Ditch the Ditch" campaign against I-70 at the age of 18 before going to school at Community College of Denver and earning a degree in History with a minor in Urban Planning. He has used this knowledge to inform his work as a Community Organizer in GES for the last decade. Poncho has helped organize campaigns for "land back" on the triangle in GES, helped start tenant unions, fought alongside tenants, and served on multiple community boards, including at Clinica Tepeyac. Poncho may be the name on the ballot, but this campaign doesn't just represent one person. This campaign represents every day working people who deserve a new socialist society. A new Denver is possible, and Poncho is committed to contributing to the collective work starting here at home in D9.
